Begin Fireplace and Chimney Project
June 2nd : Fireplace and chimney foundation completed — base for fireplace floor is laid with fire brick in afternoon — general foundation work continues — began mid day. .5 days
June 3rd : Fireplace dimensions (footprint) are defined within work area — templates are established for shaped brick — outer firebrick walls are raised 12"— finished clay brick floor is laid within established firebox — foundation work continues.

June 4th : Clay brick for finished walls of oval firebox are cut and laid 12"+ in the morning — foundation work continues — (1/2 day travel away). 2 days
June 5th : Access and regroup. (sta bd)
June 6th : Access and regroup. (ult so)
June 7th : Outer fire brick walls raised to 36"+ in the afternoon — foundation masonry completed — (1/2 day travel to). 2.5 days
June 8th : Generator problems — minimal progress. 3.5 days
June 9th : Secondary firebrick walls are raised to 60"+ — interior clay brick walls of oval firebox (and outer walls) are raised 30"+. 4.5 days
June 10th : Finished clay brick walls of firebox are raised to 60"+ — primary arch spanning fireplace opening is laid — left wood box vaulted. 5.5 days
June 11th : Right wood box vaulted — both vaults are reinforced with steel and cast over with concrete. 6.5 days
June 12th : Two more courses of clay brick laid over the initial arch — one more course of firebrick completes the arch, terminating into secondary firebrick walls — the rectangle of the fire brick walls are raised above the arch. 7.5 days
June 13th : Finished clay brick walls of the firebox are completed — Framing crew arrives — (1/2 day travel away).
8 days
June 14th — June 15th : Travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to meet with clients Michael and Sue Drew on upcoming project.
June 16th — 22nd : Framing continues — after framing is completed (22nd according to schedule), work on the fireplace will continue.
June 22nd : Begin smoke chamber and parging — (1/2 day travel to). 8.5 days
June 23rd : Continue smoke chamber and parging. 9.5 days
June 24rd : Smoke chamber reaches flue size —
(1/2 day travel away). 10 days
June 25th : Access and regroup. (c and n)
June 26th : Access and regroup. (c and n)
June 27th : Install 1st and 2nd flue liners — cont. w surrounding masonry — (half day travel to). 10.5 days
June 28th : Install 3rd and 4th flue liners — cont. w surrounding masonry. 11.5 days
June 29th : Build roof scaffolding and install 5th and 6th flue liners — cont. surrounding masonry. 12.5 days
June 30th : Install 7th and 8th (final) flue liners — cont. masonry surround — Dickey Betts lights the christening fire in

July 1st : Finish surrounding masonry — corbel chimney cap — cap w concrete. Clay brick masonry aspects of Fireplace and Chimney system completed — (half day travel away). 14 days

August 1st : Install hearth w clay brick solids — (1/2 day travel to). 14.5 days
August 2nd : Begin stone facing. 15.5 days
August 3rd : Stone wk — both wood vault arch completed and half of the fireplace opening arch. 16.5 days
August 4th : Stone wk — complete fireplace arch and flanking lower mantels. 17.5 days
August 5th : Stone wk — complete main mantel. (half day travel). 18 days

August 8th : Cont. stone wk — (half day travel). 18.5 days

December 9th : Variance acquired for property line set backs at City of Decatur ordinance hearing.
2010
January 19th : Historic Preservation Commission grants certificate of appropriateness for Daulton design at monthly hearing.
February 26th : Building permit package submittal to City of Decatur.
March 26th : Building permit acquired.
April 2nd : Tree bridge placement.
April 5th : Tree bridge retro fitted footings poured.
April 14th : Excavation begins.
April 16th : Carriage House mono slab foundation completed.
April 22nd : Main House footing pour/helical piers.
April 23rd : Main House foundation wall pour.
April 29th : Main House crawl space "slurry" slab pour.
May 1st : Main House foundation masonry completed.
May 2nd : Main House foundation backfilled and storm ready.
May 5th* : Masonry border around porches and chimneys completed (these will serve as forms for fished concrete pour).
May 8th* : Porches backfilled.
May 12th : Finished porch slabs and chimney bases poured.
May 16th : Structural masonry begins at back porch.
May 19th : Structural masonry begins at front porch.
May 26th : Carriage House framing begins.
May 27th : Structural masonry back porch completed.
June 4th : First meeting with Troyce (slate rep).
June 10th* : Carriage House masonry begins.
June 15th : Carriage House framing inspection passed/water meter installation.
June 18th : Structural masonry front porch completed/first meeting with R. W. Stokes (slater).
June 23rd : Temporary power received. (delays due to address confusion/3 different numbers on record).
June 25th* : Masonry wood vaults for Den fireplace begins.
June 30th : Carriage House masonry completed.
July 1st* : Gas line and masonry floor for back porch fireplace installed.
July 2nd : Begin back porch fireplace fire box (fire brick).
July 3rd : Begin back porch fireplace exterior and fire box clay brick liner.
July 5th : Begin Carriage House slate roof installation.
July 15th : Carriage House slate roof installation completed.
July 8th : Arch for back porch fireplace opening constructed.
July 12th : Begin back porch fireplace smoke chamber.
July 19th : Install gas line and begin shaped brick base for den fireplace.
July 20th : Begin den fireplace firebox (fire brick and clay brick liner).

August 9th : Living room fireplace split brick herring bone firebox, arch and damper installation completed.
August 10th : Begin living room fireplace smoke chamber.
August 19th : Library fireplace gas line installed and floor completed.
August 20th : Begin library fireplace fire box (fire brick and clay brick liner).
August 23rd : Arch for library fireplace constructed.
August 24th : Begin library fireplace smoke chamber.
August 25th : Install library fireplace damper.
August 26th : Flues aligned for tiles/chimney construction begins at approx. 20' off floor level.
August 30th : Front chimney completed.
September 1st : Sills anchor bolted to foundation.
September 3rd : Main level floor framing, (i joist).
September 4th : Main level decked, (High Performance Advantech).
October 1st : Framing completed.
October 7th : Begin veneer masonry.
October 18th : Begin plumbing rough.
October 19th : Electrical rough for Carriage House completed in one day.
October 20th : Begin HVAC rough.
October 21st : Metting with kitchen designer and electricians for final layout. Slate arrives on site.
October 22nd : Slaters begin roofing — 2.3 Squares installed.
October 25 : Begin electrical rough.
December 2nd : High Voltage inspection passed.
December 3rd : Low Voltage inspection passed/Barrel vault corridor completed.
December 10th : Framing, HVAC and Plumbing inspection passed/Valleys completed.
December 21st : Graduated slate delivered — slaters begin installation. Dry wall is stocked.
December 23rd : Insulation inspection passed.
December 24th : Begin hanging Dry wall.
December 29th : Hardwood flooring material stocked for acclamation.
January 1st : Dry wall completed.
January 3rd : Begin hardwood floor installation.
January 4th : Hardwood installation completed.
January 6th : Begin Trim.
January 18th : Historic Preservation Hearing — deferred.
January 26th? : Electrical power to meter base activated.
February 10th : Gas is turned on, begin exterior painting and partial interior painting, milled porch ceiling material on site.
February 11th : Furnaces connected and operable, granite hearths installed, begin floor sanding.
February 12th : Floor sanding completed and stain applied, copper awning installed at front elevation.
February 14th : Cabinet installation begins.
February 15th : Historic Preservation Hearing — Issue resolved.
February 23rd : Belguard paver installation begins.
February 28th : Preliminary HPC inspection. This was requested so that March hearing could be utilized if any other issues arose.
March 5th : Stone countertops and tub deck installed. Carriage house trim completed. Masonry over slate sided bay completed. Appliance installation.
March 29th : Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.) granted.
